Diffusion tensor imaging in progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy: early predictor for demyelination?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is a severe demyelinating disease of the central nervous system caused by a JC papovavirus infection. Prognosis is poor with fatal outcome within 1 year in 90% of patients. Our case report shows that diffusion tensor imaging can give early and specific information about disease status and extent in a 15-year-old girl with progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy associated with congenital human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.

Polyomaviruses may cause human disease, particularly in immunocompromised hosts. JCV, one of the members of polyomaviridae family, is the causative agent of the neurological disease progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), which occurs mostly in immunocompromised patients. Progressive Multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a progressive demyelinating disorder of the central nervous sy...

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a demyelinating brain disease caused by Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV). This disease is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients. We report a 34-year-old man infected with HIV-1 who presented with frequent general tonic clonic seizure and left side weakness for 2 months. Clinical feature...

We report on a stem cell-transplanted patient with B cell chronic lymphatic leukemia who presented with a subacute onset of focal neurological deficits, gait abnormalities, emotional lability and dementia. Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy was diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain and detection of JC virus genome in the cerebrospinal fluid. Cidofovir and the 5HT2A ...

SUMMARY: We investigated the brain magnetic susceptibility changes induced by natalizumab-associated progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. We retrospectively included 12 patients with natalizumab–progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, 5 with progressivemultifocal leukoencephalopathy fromother causes, and 55 patients withMSwithout progressivemultifocal leukoencephalopathy for comparis...

We present the clinical, imaging, and neuropathologic data for a family with an autosomal dominant, nonhypertensive, progressive cerebral arteriopathy and leukoencephalopathy. Clinical presentation was characterized by progressive dementia, gait abnormalities, and, in some, Parkinson-like symptoms. MR abnormalities, consisting of white matter T2 hyperintensities and cystic-appearing T1 hypointe...
